Dear Moms,
At times do you feel your mom energy is spent trying to figure out what just happened?
I thought I was a great mom until my 5 year old’s anger prompted him to hurl a T-rex at the TV and I lost my cool. REALLY FAST!
Before I could stop myself, I started yelling. He ran into the bathroom and slammed the door. Frustrated with myself, I started crying. And the flicker of a broken TV made me worry about the frustration my husband would feel when he came home.
How did we get pulled into this emotional vortex so fast? In less than a minute more than dinosaurs were hurling across the room. Anger. Tears. Frustration. Slammed doors. Disappointment.
HOLY COW!!!
- How do we get out of this?
- Or better yet, how do we avoid it in the first place?
Have you been in the middle of this kind of crazy, recently?
Your crazy might resemble uncontrollable tears from your daughter or the screaming silence of your teen, but this kind of emotional vortex seems far too frequent and frustrating.
It makes me question myself as a mom.
How about you?
I search my childhood for some clues about how to navigate this and since I wasn’t raised with any emotional direction I come up blank. Self-awareness and EQ (emotional intelligence) were not part of the 80’s parenting models and even now my parents struggle to discuss their own feelings; which left me to unpack everything on my own in my 30’s and 40’s.
I don’t want that for my son.
I don’t want to look back and regret moments I could’ve stepped in and offered direction and support to his personal development but didn't.
I don’t want to remain powerless to help him become great.
If you’re here, you don’t want that either.
Thus began my journey to consider what this “EVERYTHING” was that I had to unpack in my later years so I could begin to unpack it with my son now.
Since we love picture books, I set out to find ones that addressed our struggles in ways that align with my heart and values.
I only found 2-3!
So, the adventure became developing my own stories and activities to bring my son into conversation about his feelings and how they interact with his heart, mind, body, and spirit.
I want to share these with you and invite you to join me on this adventure.
In my FREE challenge, HAPPY in the Halls of your Home, I want to give you my first big lesson about happiness and how to generate it with your kids.
The good news is that it doesn’t take hours of planning, just an intentional spirit, a bit of self-awareness and a heart for your family. (I have the ideas for you :) )
This is just the beginning of unpacking feelings, actions, mindset, and character development…
But it’s one step closer to feeling like I’m the MOM I want to be for my son today.
Join me for this 5 Day Happy Challenge and let’s impact our homes together!!
